It was difficult to believe that I hadn’t just imagined what Edward had said, and the way his eyes had looked. Maybe it was just a very convincing dream that I’d confused with reality. That seemed more probable than that I really appealed to him on any level.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.86
It was hard to believe that someone so beautiful could be real. I was afraid that he might disappear in a sudden puff of smoke, and I would wake up.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.87I’m trying to figure out what you are.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.89I had been vacillating during the last month between Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker. There was no way I was going to own up to that.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.89
I can’t imagine why that would be frustrating at all — just because someone refuses to tell you what they’re thinking, even if all the while they’re making cryptic little remarks specifically designed to keep you up at night wondering what they could possibly mean… now, why would that be frustrating?
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.90I just wondered… if you could warn me beforehand the next time you decide to ignore me for my own good. Just so I’m prepared.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.91
He was dangerous. He’d been trying to tell me that all along.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.93I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping to die. Or, at the very least, not to throw up.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.96Suddenly the sidewalk disappeared from beneath me. My eyes flew open in shock. Edward had scooped me up in his arms, as easily as if I weighed ten pounds instead of a hundred and ten.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.97His voice was like melting honey. I could imagine how much more overwhelming his eyes would be.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.102
It was all I could do to keep from falling backward. He’d probably just drag me along anyway if I did.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.103
You are so pushy!
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.104I was mentally calculating my chances of reaching the truck before he could catch me. I had to admit, they weren’t good.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.104
I tried to maintain what dignity I could as I got into his car. I wasn’t very successful — I looked like a half-drowned cat and my boots squeaked.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.104My mom always says I was born thirty-five years old and that I get more middle-aged every year.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 5, p.106I wasn’t looking forward to Friday, and it more than lived up to my non-expectations.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.110The worst part about Friday was that, even though I knew he wasn’t going to be there, I still hoped.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.111
And I couldn’t stop the gloom that engulfed me as I realized I didn’t know how long I would have to wait before I saw him again.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.111So it was going to be one of those days.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.113
On the one hand, I loved the tide pools. They had fascinated me since I was a child; they were one of the only things I ever looked forward to when I had to come to Forks. On the other hand, I’d also fallen into them a lot. Not a big deal when you’re seven and with your dad. It reminded me of Edward’s request — that I not fall into the ocean.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.116I was completely absorbed, except for one small part of my mind that wondered what Edward was doing now, and trying to imagine what he would be saying if he were here with me.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.117All I caught was that one of the girls was also named Jessica, and the boy who noticed me was named Jacob.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.118
It was like the first day of school all over again.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.119It does great in a collision.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.120He flashed a brilliant smile, looking at me appreciatively in a way I was learning to recognize.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.121He’d said that the Cullens didn’t come here, but his tone had implied something more — that they weren’t allowed; they were prohibited.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.121It was a stupid plan, but I didn’t have any better ideas. I hoped that young Jacob was as yet inexperienced around girls, so that he wouldn’t see through my sure-to-be-pitiful attempts at flirting.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.122I tried to make my smile alluring, wondering if I was laying it on too thick. He smiled back, though, looking allured.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.123But I really did like Jacob. He was someone I could easily be friends with.
Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 6, p.127
